What's up?!?
So, last Saturday we had some family/wedding events to go to mid-morning so we were only able to get out to one garage sale. We chose the "TwentyPlace" garage sale (a retirement complex) not really knowing what to expect. The place had something in the vicinity of 40 garage sales! It was awesome!
Before I go any further with this post we need to highlight the awesomeness that is garage saling this Saturday. There are not one but TWO of our favorite garage sales happening this weekend.
First of all, for all you Hamiltonians, there is the annual Sunninghill Street garage sale. This is a street sale so you can park your car and walk (and walk and walk) from garage sale to garage sale.
The second is similar but in Caledonia. The whole city is turned into garage sale heaven. It is great once your there BUT if you go to this one understand it will take you a while to get into Caledonia and a while to get out of Caledonia (a while could be an hour or more). Almost every street is a street sale and it's good fun.
Both of these garage sales are especially great for people with kids because you can hit up a lot of garage sales at once and you don't have to keep taking your kid(s) in and out of the car seat which can get annoying and lead to a grumpy little one.
Back to last Saturday:
Old people have a lot of really nice bikes for sale. There were bikes at, at least, five of the sales we went to on the complex. We didn't pick up any of them because, along with the really good condition, came a nice (and reasonable) price tag which we weren't willing to pay. Looking back on it we would have been the coolest couple on the block riding matching seniors bikes made in China with the original paint (sidenote: we also learned that old people have a story for everything they sell which is simultaneously awesome and impressive to hear and annoying when you just want to get to the next sale). We bought a little kids wagon. Not a wagon for kids to ride in but a wagon for them to pull their other toys in... baby girl loves it. Keeleah paid FULL PRICE ($0.50) for a basket thingy (which I mocked her for until...) she turned around and got a sweet blender for $2.00 at the next garage sale and totally redeemed herself. It was great taking Abriel out of the car and just letting her walk from sale to sale instead of strapping her into the car seat between each one. The seniors loved her and she loved the attention and their pets and the balloons on the end of the driveways with garage sales happening (it was a very well executed complex sale).
Two things got the better of us when it came to video taping: (1) We assumed that old people wouldn't want us to tape so we didn't ask and; (2) we also left the camera in the car to walk "a bit" in the complex - which turned into us walking over half of the complex. In any case we didn't get footage from last week but we did think of a tip before we got through the day so here it is:
Garage Saling is supposed to be fun. If something is getting in the way of it being fun or you aren't enjoying the experience anymore you should maybe look at alternatives like kijiji or craigslist or something. Keep it fun!
Come out with us Saturday! We will definitely be hitting up the Sunninghill Street Sale and (time permitting) the Caledonia sale. If you see us come say "hi" and become famous on our slightly-less-frequent-than-expected video blog!
Also, leave a comment with your best garage saling stories or finds. Or let us know what you are looking for and what you're willing to pay for it and we'll see if we can find it (and fit it in our ridiculously unequipped for garage saling sized car).
Happy Findings!
